Perennial Problems
Back to list of problems

The quince trees in our garden have brown rusty leaves. We have tried spraying, but it comes back year after year, and in seven years, we have not had a single quince.
A grower recommended Bordeaux mixture which can be obtained from Garden centres. The mixture contains copper sulphate and is non organic. It is important to remove the blighted leaves and keep the ground clear where they fall. Vita Sackville West once wrote that the quince was one of the easiest fruit trees to grow without any problems and was deluged with letters about this. One little gem that came out of this was that if there are any Junipers nearby, they could carry a fungus, which will infect the quince tree. Does that apply to your garden?
